2nd European meeting for the World Year of Physics

The second meeting for the World Year of Physics 2005, took place in the EPS office, in Mulhouse, France, on the 2 and 3 September 2005.

More than 20 coordinators and representatives came from different European countries to describe the progress, the impact and the activities, in relation to the World Year of Physics 2005.

The present results are:

  • in France, the number of new scientific students, registered at major Universities during the month of July, increased;
  • in all countries, the events were covered by the press and the radio, mostly on Einstein (and less on WYP itself);
  • a large involvement of young students and PhD and new friendly relations between high schools and researchers were noticed in all European countries;
  • the message of the importance of physics in our daily life is delivered;
  • one of the closing events is planned for the 1st December 2005, in CERN. It will be a world wide webcast from the globe;
  • The European coordinators will  meet each year to promote physics, sharing ideas and information

Some activities should be repeated also in the next years (virtual classroom, science week, physics demonstrations in the street, physics conferences, competitions based on physics, creation of a website “how does it work”?(Poland), computer games inspired from Einstein, Eureka Cup (The Netherlands), physics talent search…….)
