Events:

  • Calendar with relevant events related with physics: anniversaries of scientists, dates of discoveries, etc. Competition open to different classes of school students. Prices for the school, for the teachers and the students of the three best projects.

  • Starting in January 2005: School Physics Experiments. Competition open to teams of, at most, three high school students with the leadership of a teacher.

  • To be awarded during a national Physics conference in 2005: Prize for the “Best Physics Teacher”. They are planning to award three prizes.

  • Starting in October 2004: 500 physics Colloquia in different High Schools

  • Opening in October 2004: Exhibition “alfa, beta, gamma”. This is an exhibition about radioactivity and nuclear physics. It uses some material prepared by the Nuclear Physics European Collaboration Committee, NuPECC, and already shown in France, Germany and Italy. The exhibition will open in Lisbon and it will be shown in some other four or five Portuguese towns.

  • From September 22, 2005 till January 8, 2006: Exhibition “A Luz de Einstein” (Luz means light but it could also be understood as inspiration). This is a major exhibition about Physics. It is organized by the Gulbenkian Foundation, with our collaboration. It will be shown in Lisbon in the Gulbernkian Foundation

  • A scientific Documentary Festival will be held in Portugal from 24th to 27th November. Within the framework of this festival, there is a contest called "Einstein´s minute". The aim of the "Einstein’s minute" contest is to challenge all who that practise the art of image and sound to produce a short movie (animation, video, multimedia or other) about the life and/or work of Albert Einstein, the inspirer of the 2005 World Year of Physics (see www.fisica.uminho.pt/fisicum2005/concurso.htm
    The total amount of the prize money is €2000.
    The deadline for the submission of the films to the contest is 14th November.
    An international Jury will award the Grand Prix (€1500).
    A multimedia prize of €500 wil be awarded after an internet poll.
