Events:

  • Promote a national movement for the improvement of the teaching of physics in all educational levels (the quality of high school teaching of physics is particularly low in Brazil)

  • Motivate and stimulate young people for the physical sciences

  • January 24-28, 2005: XVII National Congress on Teaching of Physics (XVII Simpósio Nacional de Ensino de Física, SNEF) - Rio de Janeiro

  • 26 May : Day of Physics:
In this day, local activities will be organized in all the institutes and departments of physics around the country. Outreached events will be promoted as well as classroom-based projects. There will be also a campaign in the mass media for discussing the importance of physics in our society.

  • July 2005: Annual Meeting of the Brazilian Society which will include special sections for WYP2005 . They will perhaps promote a special event in Sobral (Ceará), the city where the British expedition measured the deflection of light in 1919, as predicted by the general theory of relativity.

  • Edition of books and some special numbers of journals and magazines :
    a. Special numbers of the journals and magazines of the SBF (Revista Brasileira de Ensino de Física and Física na Escola) will be dedicated to the WYP2005 and to the centenary of Einstein's works. The magazine Ciência & Ambiente (Federal University of Santa Maria) is preparing a special issue on Einstein's works.
    b. Edition of an illustrated book for the general public on the state of art in the main domains of physics and on their future perspectives.
    c. A collection of books on topics of Modern Physics, written by physicists and researchers in physics teaching and aimed to high school teachers will be launched at the XVII SNEF.

  • A general poster on the WYP2005 will be distributed to Universities and Tee-shirts will be produced too.

  • Creation of a Website (under construction)

  • Exhibitions:
    a) "Einstein and Latin America” which will contain material, documents and photos on Einstein's visits and interaction with some countries of Latin America. (Portuguese and Spanish version)
    b) “" Exhibition on nuclear energy”, their applications, benefits and risks and the history of nuclear energy in Brazil.

  • Public Lectures: A program of lectures on physics around the country, to be made by Brazilian physicists with recognized expository skills, is being considered.

  • Commemorative stamps for the celebration of WYP2005

  • April 2005, Rio de Janeiro: Interactive exhibition with some experiments during the the IV World Congress of Science Centers and Museums

  • Campaign in mass media: we will stimulate the realization of interviews with physicists in newspapers, radio and TV, on the commemorations of the WYP2005. Scientific magazines are being contacted for the production of special numbers on the WYP2005 and on Einstein's works. Public TV stations are being stimulated also for preparing the exhibition of documentaries on physics.

  • Stimulating the organization of scientific films exhibits (including documentaries, classical science fiction films, biographies of scientists etc) in the main cities of the country.

  • Proposing to institutes and departments of physics the organization of conferences, hands on activities, debates etc in high schools around the country. We are discussing also with governmental educational offices the production of posters on important and interesting themes of physics (history of the universe, structure of matter etc) to be distributed in high schools and universities.

  • Good biographies and books on Einstein's works are being suggested too.

  • Theatre, Music and Science. Stimulating theatre groups and musical bands to produce shows related to science, in particular to physics.
