National Events:

  1. A special WYP2005 calendar to be distributed to high schools, with planned events throughout 2005 marked on the calendar
  2. National Museum of Science and Tech. prepare hands on display demonstrating Einstein’s discoveries
  3. Interactive displays on CAP website
  4. Produce a glossy booklet for schools and the public providing an overview of 100 years of physics in Canada and 60 years of CAP
  5. Run immediately a competition within CAP for a logo design and for nominations of the most important achievement in physics in Canada in the last 100 years.
  6. Profile a significant achievement in physics in Canada (e.g. , electron microscope development in Toronto, Brockhouse’s neutron scattering work) and prepare a booklet detailing its history
  7. (In June) Special CAP congress to mark 60th anniversary at UBC.
  8. (October/ November 2005) The IUPAP General Assembly might be held in Canada, perhaps in June with the CAP congress. The decision on the location of the 2005 Assembly has not yet been finalized.
  9. Special articles in PIC throughout the year and/or a special issue on physics education.
  10. A special review article with Canadian authors to appear in each issue of Can J. Phys. throughout 2005
  11. A new physics undergraduate university curriculum announced at start of year

 

Provincial Events:

  1. Special displays at the provincial museums of Science and Techn., e.g., Ontario Science Museum and science North in Sudbury, Ontario
  2. CAP prestigious WYP2005 lecture tour with a great name(s) as speaker.

Regional Events:

  1. The CAP’s Division of Physics Education will organize, in summer 2005, regional institutes for physics teachers on a grand scale.
  2. Place science teachers in University and Government Laboratories for a few days for hands-on experience, modelled on the exsting program run by TRIUMPF.
  3. Science festival "Quantum information": 21 January 2005 at Rozsa Centre, University of Calgary. More information on the website http://www.iqis.org/contest

Local Events:

  1. Each university/college physics department chair and national laboratory is to organize a local event
  2. Special prizes for physics posters at local science fairs. Give a scroll/certificate plus cash/mug/t-shirt.
